It is free after all....its not proactive protection either.....so you get it first then MSSE is like "OH Sh** YOU'RE INFECTED!.......Oh yeah and we can't fix it"

technically you dont even need to run an anti-virus, so long as you know what your clicking on. kept putting off installing one on my laptop for about a month (needed to find a key to activate before i could install it). after a month finally got the key, installed an anti-virus and it found nothing at all.

^ :!: The most incorrect statement of the year :| . You obviously don't repair computers :? .......I don't think you fully understand what that "one click" actually does.....It will, unbeknownst to you go to (on avg) 2 or 3 tracking/ad sites before you even arrive at your destination. Also, mouse-overs are dangerous, not to mention websites that prompt you before you leave. You NEED antivirus or Internet Security.

PS: I do NOT consider McAfee products to be protection, they are as useless as broken condoms.....9.9/10 computers that I remove viruses, fake av programs, etc from ruin McAfee "Protection"

To be fair, the virus in question was a particularly nasty one. It managed to thoroughly infect the boot sector of the hard drive. In the end I formatted the drive in linux and reinstalled Windows. Any other viruses MSSE has encountered it has cleaned without issue. This one was bad, I haven't seen one that bad since floppy disks and DOS.

But yeah, in that case more proactive and heavy duty protection would probably have been worth the sacrifice in money and system resources. Luckily I don't keep much of importance on the Windows drive.

tbf, it depends who/what else is on your network. At home all of my stuff is on a completely seperate network. as i said, 'so long as you know what your clicking on' you wont get a virus. Don't think had a virus on any of my pc's for years.

I'm not saying EVERYONE should not use an anti-virus. it's just i dont find it compulsary for my personal machines as i'm not stupid enough to click on something which isn't safe. plus majority of my personal computers run linux.

The point i was trying to make is that if i can go a month without an anti-virus and not get a single virus, i'm sure that a free anti-virus would do the job perfectly well instead of paying silly ammounts for one.

" You obviously don't repair computers "

... it's my job? lol
